A Month of Building, in Nine Posts

The devlog went two weeks without a post, and the reason is in it: the workshop grew. Between October 2 and 25, Castle Arena gained a map editor, its 15th arena, troops from new packs, a HUD style after Dota 2 and TFT and Castle Fight's rules read from the map's script. And it gained three siblings: Castle Survivors, Line Tower and Custom Hero Survival, plus Kastle, the engine that serves all four, and Kastle Studio, the bench where every game's numbers live.

The series has nine posts and opens with One Month, Four Games and One Engine, which carries the map of the other eight. Nothing that went into Castle Arena is a release yet: it all ships together, after the rebalance.

New models, new music and a faster march

Two days of work on how the game looks and sounds:

  • New 3D models for the Crown, the Gear Guild, the Horde riders, the three elf factions and the spiders, and new buildings for humans, elves, orcs and the undead. Buildings now smoke and burn as they take damage.
  • Music and sound: new menu and battle tracks that rotate with a smooth crossfade, weapon and spell sounds, forest and sea ambience, death voices, and a spoken herald.
  • A faster march: troops and workers walk 1.5x faster, without touching the fights, so every faction keeps its balance.
  • Single-player matches can be saved and continued later.

The full list is in the release notes.

A tournament against the AIs: lift the cup

The main menu now has the Tournament: a knockout of 4 or 8 entrants, you and AIs, each with a different faction. Win the quarterfinal, the semifinal and the final to lift the cup.

How it works

  • Every tie you play is a real match, best of 1 or best of 3, with the AI level and arena you choose.
  • The ties you are not in are played out by the AIs on the spot: you never wait.
  • If you go out, watch the next tie live or simulate the rest of the tournament.
  • The tournament is saved: close the game and carry on later, right where you stopped.

A loading card also arrived: when a battle starts, the screen shows the arena, a line from one of your faction's troops and a tip. The full list is in the release notes.
