Old-School Fog of War

Castle Arena's first fog of war was made of clouds. They covered the map and parted for good wherever your troops went. It looked nice, but it did not help you play: once you explored an area, it stayed open forever and told you nothing about what was happening there now.
Three states, like the classics
We swapped the clouds for a dark veil, the way Age of Empires, Warcraft and Dota do it:
- Never seen: nearly black. You don't know what is there.
- Explored: dimmed. You see the terrain and remember the buildings you saw, but not the troops moving through.
- In sight: clear. This is the only place enemy troops show up.
Sight reveals the map
Each of your troops, buildings and your castle has a sight radius, and those radii are now large: 12 cells for a regular troop, up to 15 for ranged ones and 15 for the castle. Sight is updated all the time. As your troops push forward, the veil opens ahead of them. When they die, the area falls back into the dim. The minimap follows the same rule.
Fog stays visual only. The simulation and the AI know nothing about it, so online matches run the same on both computers, and each player sees the map through their own army.
